A former Nigerian Ambassador to the Philippines, Dr. Yemi Farounbi, has told the federal government to desist from attacking the leader of the British Conservatives Party, Kemi Badenoch.

Ambassador Yemi Farounbi said the criticism of Kemi showed the leadership of Nigeria has not recognized the problem of the country.

Naija News reported that the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, criticized the Nigerian-British for “denigrating” her country of origin.

It would be recalled that Vice President Kashim Shettima had criticized Badenoch for making disparaging remarks about Nigeria.

In reaction to the words Shettima made at the 10th Annual Migration Dialogue at the State House in Abuja on Monday, Kemi stated that she does not owe Nigeria public relations.

Her reaction also got another criticism from some APC chieftains, including ex-President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide, Bashir Ahmed and a former Aviation Minister, Fani Kayode.

Speaking with the Guardian, Nigeria’s former Ambassador to the Philippines stated that Nigeria contributed nothing to Kemi’s future. He explained that Kemi is not representing Nigeria but her party.

When we all accept that we are deficient, then we can begin to work upon it. When we get angry and go and rob Kemi’s name, because she’s the leader of the opposition and she says she’s not in Nigeria.

“We ought to be intelligent enough to know that she’s the leader of the opposition in the British Parliament. She’s not representing us. We’ve contributed nothing to her image. So, why do you want her to not tie herself and her future to us? It is that kind of speech that tells me that we don’t recognize that we have problems,” Farounbi stated.
