Supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, operating under the Obi–Kwankwaso (OK) Movement, are stepping up political efforts ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election. Their main goal is to secure the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and present a united front against the ruling government.
The movement is built on collaboration between two strong political support bases: Obi’s “Obidient” movement and Kwankwaso’s “Kwankwasiyya” group. According to the spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, discussions between both camps are ongoing, with a shared commitment to forming a joint ticket. This alliance is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the opposition and avoid splitting votes during the election. A key highlight of the talks is Kwankwaso’s reported willingness to serve as a running mate to Obi if necessary. This signals flexibility and a focus on collective success rather than personal ambition. The coalition believes that unity is essential to challenge the incumbent president, Bola Tinubu, and improve their chances of victory.
Additionally, the group emphasized the need for a transparent and credible primary election within the ADC. They expressed concerns that some aspirants might attempt to manipulate the process through financial influence, pledging to resist any unfair practices. The movement also called on Atiku Abubakar to act as a unifying figure within the opposition. Overall, the initiative reflects growing efforts among opposition leaders to consolidate power and present a stronger challenge in 2027.
