Osimhen Can Be Very Greedy

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has admitted that his national teammate, Victor Osimhen, “can be very greedy” whenever he is in the opposition’s penalty box.

William Troost-Ekong went on to commend Osimhen not only for his skills on the pitch but also for his remarkable mentality and leadership attributes that he brings to the team.

“He’s a great teammate”, the Super Eagles center back told talkSPORT. “In front of goal, he can be very greedy, but he’s someone who speaks up for the team in the changing room. He’s a real leader, and I’m sure he’ll be captain soon.”

Troost-Ekong recounted Osimhen’s arrival in 2019, where he initially played as the understudy to seasoned striker Odion Ighalo, but quickly impressed his teammates with his dedication and performance during training sessions.

Also, William Troost-Ekong has revealed that Osimhen is a fervent Chelsea supporter. This insight comes in the wake of Osimhen’s summer transfer saga, where he was on the brink of joining Chelsea but ultimately failed to secure an agreement with the club’s management. Instead, the striker opted for a season-long loan move to Galatasaray, where he hopes to make an impact.

Troost-Ekong’s declaration about Osimhen’s allegiance to Chelsea raises the possibility of a future transfer to the Premier League giants. When talkSPORT asked the veteran defender to comment on Osimhen’s future, the former Watford star said, “I can tell you he’s a Chelsea fan; I can confirm that.”

Meanwhile, William Troost-Ekong is fervently supporting his national teammate Ademola Lookman in his bid to be crowned Africa’s best player for 2024.

Lookman has made it to the final shortlist for the prestigious African Player of the Year award, competing against notable players like Serhou Guirassy, Achraf Hakimi, Rowen Williams, and others.

The winner of this highly anticipated award will be announced at the 2024 CAF Awards ceremony, set to take place in the city of Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday.

Ahead of the ceremony, Troost-Ekong said, “I would say he’s arguably our best player and arguably the best player in Africa right now.

“On December 16, there will be the [African Player of the Year] ceremony, and I’m sure he’s going to win it.”
