Manchester United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, has emphasized the importance of maintaining high-performance standards within the squad as he prepares for the upcoming Carabao Cup quarter-final match against Tottenham Hotspur.
Ruben Amorim stated that the selection of key players Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho for the match hinges on their training performance leading up to the game.
Both Rashford and Garnacho were notably absent from the squad during United’s recent 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Following the match, Amorim made it clear that he is committed to enforcing rigorous standards within the team, addressing player performance and readiness.
When asked about Rashford and Garnacho as potential selections for the upcoming cup tie, Amorim acknowledged that a final decision would be made based on their commitment and performance during training sessions.
“We have one more training session before the match, and it’s important to evaluate their efforts just like I do with the other players,” he said.
“If they train well, they’ll certainly be in the mix for selection. I always expect the best from each player every day, so we’ll have to see how they perform in training before making the final call.”
In a separate development, Amorim also addressed comments made by Marcus Rashford after his omission from the squad against Manchester City. Following the match, Rashford indicated that he is “ready for a new challenge,” prompting speculation regarding his future at Manchester United.
In his pre-match interview, Amorim acknowledged Rashford’s sentiments, stating, “He is indeed right when he mentions the need for a new challenge.”
He explained further, “We have a new challenge ahead of us, and this is one of the biggest moments in football. We find ourselves in a tough situation right now, and I sincerely hope that all my players are prepared to rise to the occasion.”
