According to a report by Channels Television published on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central in the National Assembly, has criticised comments made by former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff about the 2027 presidential election, accusing him of attempting to influence northern voters against Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi.

Umeh’s reaction followed Sherif’s appearance on Politics Today on Monday, where the former governor argued that Peter Obi would not receive significant support from northern voters in the next presidential election.
