LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the arrest and cautioned the public to beware of such deceitful individuals, emphasizing the agency’s cashless policy where violators are charged to court via a ‘Referral Notice.’

Bakare-Oki stressed the deployment of more surveillance personnel to apprehend such elements exploiting innocent motorists across the state.

Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, revealed that Adegbemi was caught following complaints of extortion from owners of inter-state commercial buses impounded for traffic infractions in the Moshalasi by Alaka area of Surulere.

Investigations unveiled Adegbemi’s practice of extorting significant sums from vehicle owners, promising to facilitate the release of impounded vehicles.

Adegbemi, residing at Number 9, Anifowose Street, Somolu, confessed, “I and my colleagues make an average of N250,000 weekly from motorists arrested for traffic offences.”
