Afenifere, Ohanaeze Commends Tinubu’s Efforts Toward Nation’s Restructuring

The groups made their position public in Yola, the Adamawa State Capital during an award ceremony by the Gongola Ethnic Nationalities for its members that won elective positions in the 2023 general elections.

The groups described the recent change of the national anthem as a step in the right direction, believing that it would give a sense of belonging to various ethnic nationalities in the country.

According to the Secretary General of Afenifere, Mr Ebisimi Olusola who stood in for the group national leader, “Nigeria is a nation of different ethics nationalities and that was the reason that the nation founding fathers have adopted federalism as the form of government so that each group will have the autonomy to celebrate its own existence”.

The guest speaker at the occasion, Professor Jerry Gana described Gongola Region as the “bedrock of highly educated people who should discard their differences and chart a better course for the nation”.

Represented by Professor Saliva James, however, emphasized the need for unity among the diverse cultural symbiosis of the region.

According to him, the class of elites from various tribes in Adamawa and other states should not allow primordial sentiments of any sort to divide them, but everyone should be given the opportunity to contribute their quota.

Professor Gana called for the establishment of a documentation and research centre for proper records of the Gongola people who have a rich cultural heritage.

The former minister noted that there were a lot of religious upheavals in 1804 that affected the unity of the Gongola ethnic nationalities, but their strength, value and cultural heritage did not reduce.

The National President of the Forum Engineer Markus Gundiri explains that the celebration is designed to foster unity and economic development of the indigenous groups within the Gongola enclave and to reenact the long-standing unity and togetherness which the people share as a common heritage.

“Our goal is to revisit, reawaken and reassert ourselves as people with independent minds and ability to forge their economy and identities”. He said

He added that the forum has come to terms with the current economic realities of the nation to work ways to navigate through it to escape from its excruciating pains while calling for unity among members and Nigerians at large.

He pointed out that the Forum is not political but rather to encourage members that won elections in Adamawa state in the last general election while emphasizing that the “Forum is made up of 72 out of the 74 ethnic nationalities in present Adamawa state is celebrating all young men and women who have excelled themselves in both politically, economically and infrastructure in their various fields of endeavour”.

The event drew personalities from all walks of life to Yola, including Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, representative of the former military governor of Gongola State, and Group Captain Jonah Jang, representative of General TY.
