New Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior could offer Raheem Sterling a lifeline.
Rosenior has stated that he intends to talk to Axel Disasi and the former Liverpool winger about their demotions to Enzo Maresca’s so-called “bomb squad.” This season, neither Sterling nor Disasi have taken part in first-team training.
Chelsea paid £47.5 million ($64 million) in 2023–2024 to entice Sterling from Manchester City. He was loaned out to Arsenal for the 2024–2025 season, however he has gradually plummeted down the west London hierarchy.
According to the BBC, Sterling has not kicked a ball this season and is currently training with Disasi at a different time and location from the first squad.
Since January 20, 2025, the central defender hasn’t played in any league games for the team.
Rosenior To Have Conversation With Sterling, Disasi
According to Goal, Rosenior is clearing up a backlog of work and has stated he will talk to the two banished individuals after taking over from Maresca.
He said: “I will have conversations with them. We’re in January, as you know.
“Raheem’s had an outstanding career. I’ve got huge respect for him. Axel is someone I’ve really, really liked as a player for a long time.
“Honestly, I have to have a conversation with them. I have to have a conversation with the club. I’m being genuinely honest. I literally have got to work through a list of priorities. I will do in the next few days.”
Serie A team Napoli are reportedly interested in Sterling, and Disasi has drawn interest from both Roma and Lyon.
However, as there are now six players on foreign loans, Chelsea are unable to approve any more, and they would have to cancel one in order for either to proceed with short-term agreements.
