The campaign was fueled by news of the controversial $150 billion Samoa deal, which allegedly requires participant nations to legalise same-sex relationships.
Since Wednesday, entering the second day on Thursday, the hashtag #TinubuMustGo has been trending on X, with users sharing flyers for a proposed nationwide protest scheduled for August 2024. The campaign is quickly spreading to Facebook as well.
The ‘Tinubu Must Go’ movement echoes the beginnings of the EndSars protests, which significantly disrupted Nigeria’s economy for weeks. Given the current economic hardship and widespread poverty, a similar protest today could have even more severe consequences.

President Bola Tinubu, who took office on May 29, 2023, initiated several controversial measures including the removal of the petrol subsidy and a series of monetary policy reforms. These reforms, such as the unification of the exchange rate, have led to unprecedented inflation and increased economic instability.
Additionally, the ongoing insecurity in northern Nigeria has exacerbated issues, driving farmers from their lands and leading to skyrocketing food prices. Many Nigerians feel they have been pushed against the the wall and need to push back.
While some economists support the Federal Government’s actions as steps toward economic recovery, critics argue that the persistent wasteful spending under the Tinubu administration undermines the government’s austerity message, making it difficult for citizens to endure the economic pain.>>>CONTINUE FULL READING HERE
