During the June international window, Nigeria failed to secure a win, drawing 1-1 with South Africa and suffering a 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic.

These results have left Nigeria fifth in their group with only three points, severely damaging their qualification hopes.

In light of these bad results, the NFF announced plans to appoint a foreign technical adviser, relegating the current head coach, Finidi George, to the assistant role.

In an exclusive interview with Brila FM, Spittler commented on the situation: “I think it’s unfortunately abnormal, but I haven’t seen Nigeria play.

“People in the football world don’t look at how the team plays but are interested in maintaining records. If results are bad, the coach knows they have to live with the possibility of being sacked.”
