While condemning the act, Atiku described Nigerian journalists as beacons of light and unwavering in their duty to hold power accountable.
Atiku stated this on Sunday via his official X handle, while condemning the abduction of two journalists and their families in Kaduna.
The 2023 PDP presidential candidate lamented the continuous assault, arrest, detention and infringement on the constitutional rights of journalists in the country.

“Yet, they find themselves besieged not only by the terror of abductors but also by a government that continues to assault their freedom through arrests and detention,”he said.
According to him, the act underscores the dire state of the nation’s security and the gross failure of the leaders to protect its citizens.
He added that the abductions were indictments of the leaders’ failure to secure the safety of citizens and an intolerable breach of press freedom.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the abducted. I call upon the security agencies to act decisively and without delay to secure their release but to prioritize intelligence gathering and sharing.”
