Ronald Roland had been on the run for two years with wife Andrezza de Lima and their daughter for a number of crimes. They had successfully managed to avoid the law before de Lima shared their location on social media, according to TV Globo’s news magazine show Fantastico.

She had shared a number of locations, including Colombia, France and Dubai as authorities were able to trace their movements. The manhunt came to an end when Federal Police in Brazil raided their home as they slept. Police also arrested eight other people, as well as seizing money, drugs, weapons and a number of vehicles.

Roland had been on the run for two years Roland, 50, had links to several drug cartels across Mexico and is said to have laundered nearly £1 billion – with some of the money passing through his wife’s shop selling bikinis. Other businesses said to be involved were in construction, aviation, car rentals and cryptocurrencies.

Neighbours became suspicious when the family came home in a number of expensive cars. Federal police officer Ricardo Ruiz said: “Houses were purchased in the name of companies whose partners were people without the minimum economic capacity to acquire real estate, vehicles, aircraft. We found partners of companies, for example, who work in a restaurant, but who are partners in several companies that moved tens of millions.

“He is a very cautious person. There were numerous PF operations that investigated criminal organisations prominently involved in drug trafficking throughout South and Central America and Mexico, and Ronald was investigated in these operations for association with these major drug traffickers.”
