Abati Recounts Marital Disagreement Over Tradition and Respect

Dr. Reuben Abati, a prominent journalist and former presidential spokesperson, has provided a rare glimpse into his domestic life, revealing the candid and spirited nature of his marriage.

During an interview with Morayo Afolabi-Brown on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Abati discussed the dynamics of respect and traditional expectations within his household.

He noted that as the older partner, he occasionally feels his wife becomes too familiar, but when he attempts to assert his seniority, she firmly maintains her independence.

According to Abati, his wife makes it clear that she will not be silenced or pressured into traditional gestures like kneeling, even suggesting he should seek a wife from his village if those were his primary requirements.

“As an older person, sometimes I think my wife gets too familiar and I said no, I am older than you and she said no I you don’t want me to talk. She said she cannot kneel down, if I am looking for a wife I should go back to my village,” he said.

This insight into his personal life highlights his union with Kikelomo Abati, also known as Kiki Atanda-Owo, a renowned broadcaster and CEO of Z-Edge Holdings.

The couple, who reportedly married in 2020, has often been a subject of public interest due to their intellectual compatibility and mutual professional respect. Kikelomo, the host of the talk show “Real Talk With Kike,” has been described by Abati as his confidante and a “remarkable, intellectual, and elegant” woman who has significantly influenced his fashion sense and provided emotional healing.

Despite the occasional humorous friction mentioned in the interview, Abati has consistently expressed deep devotion to Kikelomo.

On their fourth wedding anniversary in May 2024, he publicly vowed to pay a second bride price as a renewed symbol of his dedication.

He has frequently lauded her discipline and work ethic, emphasizing that their relationship is built on a foundation of genuine love and a shared sense of purpose.
