A Nigerian woman identified as Mrs Mercy has shared a painful story about how her former husband took over the house she built and later moved another woman into it.
She narrated her experience on the popular human rights radio programme Brekete Family, hosted by Ahmed Isah, popularly known as the Ordinary President.
According to her, she built the house with her own resources after working hard to grow her business. She explained that she purchased land from a community member and later constructed a house on the property.
She had previously been in a relationship with the man who later became her husband. However, the relationship was short-lived and they separated.
Following their separation, the man returned to apologise after she had built her house and established herself, and asked for another chance. They later reconciled and eventually got married.
After the marriage, the man moved into the house she had already built and they lived happily. However, she said the situation changed after she suffered a miscarriage. According to her, the relationship became difficult and she began to experience abuse in the home.
She later reported the matter to the police and other authorities, and the marriage was dissolved by a court.
Due to the emotional stress she experienced, she temporarily left the house to recover. During that period, she said that her husband brought another woman to live in the house with them.
She later brought the matter to the Human rights radio and television for mediation. After reviewing the documents related to the property, the authorities directed the man to vacate the house so the woman could regain possession of the home she built.
