BREAKING: 2 Petroleum Tankers Explode in Oyo in Just 24 Hours

Two tankers carrying some quantities of Premium Motor Spirit have fallen in the last twenty four hours in Oyo State.

DAILY POST gathered that the two incidents occurred at separate locations in Ibadan, the state capital.

The first incident occured at Methodist along the Lagos/Ibadan Express way, Wednesday evening.

It was learned that the trailer tanker with registration number A143XA (Osun) was carrying 33,000 litres of PMS when the incident occured.

The tanker lost control whilst on motion and fell into nearby ditch and spilled its content.

Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande confirmed the incident, saying that no casualty was recorded in the incident.

He added that normal vehicular movement has been restored to the road as of the time of filing this report on Friday.

Akinwande also disclosed that the operation was successfully carried out in the presence of men of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

He said “Upon arrival, it was a trailer tanker with registration number A143XA (OSUN) of 33,000 litres capacity loaded with Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) lost control whilst on motion and fell into nearby ditch to nearby ditch and content gushing out.

“The Firemen quickly launched a coordinated attack on the spillage through the application of chemical foam compound. This swift and professional intervention prevented the unfortunate situation from escalating into fire outbreak”.

The second incident occurred in Ojoo along the Ibadan/ Oyo Expressway on Wednesday, where a tanker with registration number KJA67XF((LAGOS) loaded with 40,000 litres capacity of premium motor spirit (PMS) swerved to the road side.

No casualty was recorded during the incident as confirmed by Akinwande.

He added that the operation was successfully carried out with the support of men of Federal Fire Service Ibadan Command and other security agencies.

He said “Upon arrival, it was a trailer tanker with registration number KJA67XF (Lagos) loaded with 40,000 litres capacity of premium motor spirit (PMS) swerved to the road side.

“Our officers swung into action by applying chemical foam compound to neutralize flammability of the content to prevent it from catching fire. The operation was jointly carried out with Federal Fire Service Ibadan Command”.
