Femi Falana, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has stated that in 2003 former Senate President Chuba Okadigbo, who was asthmatic, died after inhaling teargas fired by police during a rally in Kano

Speaking in an interview with The Legacy Series, Falana stated that the leaders of Okadigbo’s party, ANPP, led by General Muhammadu Buhari, came to him and asked him to challenge the law requiring police permits for rallies.
