BREAKING: ADC Under Bala Mohammed Declares Open Opposition to Tinubu’s Re-election

The Bala-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has kicked against any form of support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid and inaugurated its zonal and state congress and appeal committees nationwide.

The inauguration, held on Sunday in Abuja, was presided over by the factional national chairman of the party, Hon. Nafiu Bala, who stated that the move aimed to strengthen the party’s internal democratic structures and reposition it as a credible opposition platform.

Bala said the committees would oversee the planning and conduct of congresses at the zonal, state, local government and ward levels, in line with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.

He said the committees were also mandated to enforce constitutional compliance, implement congressional guidelines and ensure adherence to electoral procedures, including voting, ballot handling and result declaration.

Bala urged party members to remain united and committed to building a stronger ADC founded on justice, equity and fairness.

He further distanced the faction’s leadership from a recent statement credited to Hon. Leke Joseph Abijide, who expressed support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“That statement does not reflect the position of the African Democratic Congress under our leadership as a determined opposition party,” Bala said.

“We clearly reject any association with it and reaffirm our stance as a strong opposition force in Nigeria’s political space.”

In his acceptance speech, Dr Abimikun Monday, Chairman of the Congress Committee for the North-West geopolitical zone, described the inauguration as a significant step towards repositioning the party.

He said the responsibility entrusted to the committee reflected the confidence of the party’s national leadership and pledged to ensure that congresses were conducted in line with the party’s constitution and approved guidelines.

Also speaking, the Kaduna State Chairman of the ADC, Sani Aliyu Mohammed, said the party was determined to win power through democratic means.

He said the party would intensify mobilisation and organisation from the state to the grassroots level ahead of the 2027 general elections.
