Bryan Mbeumo has spoken candidly after a controversial moment overshadowed his side’s performance, as a strong penalty appeal was waved away by the referee. The Manchester United forward admitted he felt contact in real time and believes the video evidence later confirmed his instinct.
“During the match, I felt he touched me,” Mbeumo said. “After the game, they showed me the images again and it’s very clear. But after this match, I don’t know if it all comes down to that.”
While the incident sparked debate, Mbeumo was careful not to reduce the outcome to a single refereeing decision. He pointed to his team’s first half as a missed opportunity, acknowledging that they failed to impose themselves when it mattered most.
“Unfortunately, in the first half we didn’t really accept the game and I think that’s one of the few regrets we can have tonight,” he explained. “The second half, for me, was controlled apart from the goal they scored.”
In the end, the Cameroon international framed the penalty decision as part of football’s unpredictable nature. “It’s a moment in the game and we also knew what to expect,” he concluded, striking a composed tone that reflected both frustration and perspective after a night of fine margins.
