BREAKING: APC Settles Zoning Formula for Key National Offices Ahead of 2026 Party National Convention

According to report by The Nation on Monday, March 16, 2026, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed its current zoning structure for key national offices as the party prepares for its forthcoming national convention.

The decision is aimed at maintaining internal harmony and preserving the established balance of power within the party’s leadership.

According to a statement released in Abuja on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the reaffirmation of the zoning formula is intended to avoid disputes among party members ahead of the elective convention.

He explained that retaining the existing arrangement would help sustain stability while ensuring fair representation across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones.

The APC emphasized that the power-sharing framework, which distributes leadership positions among the regions, remains fully in effect and will guide the selection of officials during the convention.

The statement referenced the party’s 2026 schedule of nationwide congresses and related activities, noting that the zoning template remains “valid and applicable” for the upcoming event.

Party members aspiring to contest for national positions were advised to strictly adhere to the established zoning guidelines when purchasing and submitting their nomination forms.

This directive, the party noted, is crucial to maintaining order and preventing unnecessary conflicts during the process.

Under the current arrangement, the position of National Chairman is allocated to the North Central zone and specifically designated to Plateau State.

The Deputy National Chairman (North) role is zoned to the North East, with Borno State identified as the beneficiary, while the Deputy National Chairman (South) position is assigned to Enugu State.

In the South West, the office of the National Secretary is retained by Osun State, while the Assistant National Secretary position falls within the North Central zone and is occupied by Nasarawa State.

Ebonyi State holds the position of National Treasurer, while Kebbi State produces the National Organising Secretary, with Anambra State assigned the role of Deputy National Organising Secretary.

Additionally, Edo State occupies the office of National Women Leader, Lagos State holds the position of National Youth Leader, and Ogun State is designated for the National Leader of Persons with Disabilities.
