According to Al Jazeera English, China has urged an immediate halt to military operations in the Middle East and warned against attempts to change the government in Iran amid the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel.
Speaking at a press briefing in Beijing, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi said efforts to engineer political change in Iran would lack public backing and would only deepen instability. He cautioned against what he described as attempts to trigger externally driven political upheaval, stressing that such actions would not enjoy popular legitimacy.
Wang emphasized that Iran’s sovereignty and the sovereignty of all nations must be respected. He called for an urgent cessation of hostilities, warning that continued fighting risks further escalation and could spread instability across the region.
According to Wang, the current conflict is unnecessary and harmful to all parties involved. He argued that military force cannot resolve political disagreements and that armed confrontation would only fuel resentment and generate new crises. Instead, he urged all sides to return to negotiations as soon as possible to resolve disputes through dialogue.
The Chinese foreign minister also highlighted the importance of regional ownership of Middle Eastern affairs, stating that countries in the region should determine their own political and security paths without outside interference. He warned against a return to power politics or unilateral action, emphasizing that global stability depends on cooperation rather than confrontation.
Beijing reiterated its readiness to work with regional governments to help restore calm and promote diplomatic solutions. China has also condemned recent developments in the conflict and has called for restraint from all involved parties.
