According to a report by Daily Trust on Saturday, March 7, 2026, the Nigerian Army has laid to rest soldiers who lost their lives during a clash with Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State, as grief and tributes marked a solemn ceremony in the North-East.
The burial took place at the Maimalari Military Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, where troops under the Operation Hadin Kai honoured their fallen colleagues who were killed while confronting terrorists in the region. The ceremony drew senior military officers, government representatives and families of the deceased personnel who gathered to pay their final respects.
The Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Abdulsalam Abubakar, described the moment as a sobering reminder of the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces in defending the nation. He praised the courage, dedication and loyalty shown by the slain soldiers, noting that their deaths were a painful loss not only to their families but also to the military and the country at large.
Reflecting on the sacrifice of the troops, the commander said, “In the profession of arms, there are moments of victory that fill us with pride and affirm the strength, courage and unity that define our service.” He added that the soldiers had displayed exceptional bravery and upheld the values of the Nigerian Army while carrying out their duty.
Abubakar assured relatives of the fallen troops that their sacrifices would not be in vain and pledged that all entitlements due to the deceased soldiers would be processed promptly to support their families.
Meanwhile, the governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, represented by Mustapha Ali Yabe, also extended condolences to the Armed Forces and families of the deceased. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting the military and assisting families of soldiers who died in the ongoing fight against insurgency.
