BREAKING: Governor Makinde declares Oyo PDP congress final despite court order

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has affirmed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) congress held in November 2025 is irreversible, insisting that the party remains focused on securing its position on the 2027 general election ballot despite national leadership crises.

Speaking at a high-level stakeholders’ meeting in Ibadan, Makinde addressed the ongoing legal and internal disputes within the national PDP, which have been complicated by conflicting court orders and factionalism involving various interest blocs.

The Governor characterized the current situation as two-fold, a war involving those seeking elective offices in 2027 and a battle to ensure the party remains a legally recognized entity on the ballot.

Makinde dismissed rumors of defection, stating that his camp remains comfortable within the PDP.

To maintain internal unity, he announced that the party would prioritize a consensus approach for selecting future candidates.

He also revealed a policy to return all first-term federal and state lawmakers unopposed as a reward for loyalty.

Urging stakeholders to return to their constituencies for consultations, Makinde expressed optimism that unity at the local level would shield the Oyo State chapter from the turbulence currently facing the party’s national headquarters.
