The attackers are believed to have come from the Madam forest, a sprawling and hard-to-police area that stretches across Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, and Taraba states. The forest has long been associated with criminal groups responsible for kidnappings and violent attacks in nearby communities.

Reports indicate that 20 soldiers and eight members of a local vigilante group lost their lives in the clash. Among the soldiers killed were two captains and a colonel. Residents also reported that roughly 20 suspected bandits were killed during the exchange.

Confirmed among the dead were Aliyu Hajji from Anguar-Kura-Lokoja, Kogi State, and Muhammad Sulaiman from Bauchi State. Their deaths have left families and communities mourning the loss of brave individuals committed to national service.

Danladi Abdulsalam, a relative of Captain Hajji, described him as dedicated to duty and loyal to the nation, calling his death a huge loss for both his family and home state. Another relative, Alhaji Musa Tanimu Nasidi, recounted that Hajji had posted a tribute to his late mother on social media just hours before the attack, highlighting his love for family and strong faith. Tragically, Hajji was killed shortly after sharing that message.

The attack underscores the ongoing dangers faced by security personnel in regions plagued by banditry. For the families left behind, the loss is not only deeply personal but also a stark reminder of the risks endured by those protecting others. See More In Details…
