A strong political signal has emerged from Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, as Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Monday Ubani, declared that the people are solidly behind Governor Alex Chioma Otti ahead of the next election cycle.
Speaking on behalf of Ikwuano indigenes, Ubani said the community has unanimously resolved to support Otti’s re-election, stressing that their position remains firm and unchanged.
He recalled that Ikwuano had thrown its weight behind Otti prior to the 2023 governorship election, noting that the decision was based on conviction and a shared aspiration for a better Abia State. According to him, the reforms and developmental strides recorded since Otti assumed office have vindicated that choice.
Ubani added that the administration’s performance has drawn commendation both within and outside the state, with many residents believing that continuity would help sustain and deepen ongoing reforms.
He maintained that the people of Ikwuano are in favour of Otti completing what he described as a full eight-year tenure to fully realise his vision for the state. Thereafter, he said, power could rotate to another qualified Abia indigene to sustain the development trajectory.
The senior lawyer also dismissed alleged moves by opposition elements to gain political control of Ikwuano, insisting that the community remains vigilant and united against any such attempts.
Observers say the declaration may reflect early political alignments ahead of the next governorship contest in Abia State, as stakeholders begin to position themselves.
Ubani further warned against a return to what he described as an era of poor governance and mismanagement, stressing that many residents believe the state is now on a progressive path that must be maintained.
He expressed optimism about Abia’s future, noting that with sustained leadership and collective effort, the state would continue to record political and economic progress.
Analysts note that endorsements from influential figures and local communities are likely to intensify as political activities gather momentum, with grassroots support expected to play a key role in shaping electoral outcomes.
