BREAKING: “I’m Ready to Take Up Arms”: Colombian President Responds to Trump’s Threat

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has expressed his readiness to take up arms following a threat by United States President Donald Trump.

DAILY POST reports that Trump, during the weekend, stormed neighbouring Venezuela with US forces and whisked away President Nicolas Maduro alongside his wife.

Addressing journalists aboard Air Force One on Sunday, the American president also threatened military action against Colombia.

Reacting in a post on his official X handle on Monday, Petro said, “I swore not to touch a weapon again, but for the homeland, I will take up arms again.”

Over the weekend, Trump also warned Petro to “watch his ass” and went on to describe him as a “sick man” who likes making cocaine and selling it to the United States.

It will be recalled that Petro, whose M-19 urban guerrilla group disarmed under a 1989 peace agreement, has not been on good terms with Trump since his second return to the White House on January 20, 2025.

He has traded words with Trump and has also been a vocal critic of the US military deployment in the Caribbean, which began with the destruction of alleged drug boats, before expanding to the seizure of Venezuelan oil tankers and, most recently, Saturday’s raid on Caracas to seize President Nicolas Maduro.
