Meanwhile, a heated dispute is brewing between Cross River and Akwa Ibom states over 76 oil wells, with both states claiming ownership.

The Cross River State government insists that the wells are within its maritime boundary, citing new findings and technical assessments. In contrast, Akwa Ibom State maintains that the Supreme Court has already ruled in its favor, with two separate judgments affirming its ownership.

The dispute has sparked tensions between the two states, with Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom dismissing Cross River’s claims as “politically motivated” and “unhelpful”.
