Ambrose Igboke, Chairman of the Guild of Public Affairs Analysts in Enugu State has questioned the Nigerian government over what happened to a list of suspected terror financiers reportedly provided by the United Arab Emirates.
Igboke raised the concern during an interview on Channels Television, where he discussed Nigeria’s ongoing battle against terrorism and the need for greater transparency and accountability in tackling the financial networks that support insurgent activities.
Speaking during the programme, he claimed that authorities in the United Arab Emirates had previously shared intelligence with Nigeria identifying individuals suspected of transferring funds used to sponsor terrorist operations. He questioned why the public has not been informed about actions taken following the revelation.
“UAE gave Nigeria a list of terrorist financiers. A long list of those who were taking money through the UAE and using it to finance terror in Nigeria. What has become of that list? I have not heard anything from you about that list,” Igboke said during the interview.
The public affairs analyst argued that addressing terrorism in Nigeria requires not only military operations but also decisive action against individuals and networks that provide financial support for extremist groups. According to him, disrupting funding channels is critical to weakening the operational capacity of terror groups.
Nigeria has battled various forms of insurgency and violent extremism for more than a decade, particularly in the North-East, where groups linked to Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province have carried out attacks on civilians, security forces and infrastructure.
