BREAKING: NSCDC Officers Handed Over to Police After Colleague’s Death in Kano

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has handed over all officers and men who were on duty during the death of a suspect in custody at the Fagge Divisional Office to the Kano State Police Command for a full investigation.

The action was a sequel to the death of a suspect last Tuesday, January 6, for what the Corps described as decisive steps to ensure transparency, accountability and justice.

A statement by the Kano NSCDC Commandant, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, said the handover was necessary “to enable further investigation and any necessary actions in line with the law.”

According to the statement, the Corps has also redeployed the Divisional Officer in charge of Fagge Division, SC Amina Musa Kolawale, after the establishment of a panel of inquiry to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The redeployment was approved in the interest of fairness and to allow for an unhindered, discreet and transparent investigation,” the Commandant said.

To ensure stability and continuity of operations at the division, the NSCDC announced the immediate deployment of a new Divisional Officer. “CSC Bashir Isa Abubakar has been assigned to take over the leadership of Fagge Division with immediate effect,” the statement noted.

The Commandant emphasised that the decision to hand over the officers on duty to the police was aimed at guaranteeing an independent process.

He stressed that the Corps “does not condone any act that undermines the sanctity of human life.”
