Grammy Award-winning singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has pledged to renovate Community Secondary School in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State following a controversy involving a young woman and the council chairman.
The development comes after Ogadinma Minnie was allegedly assaulted by the Ahoada West LGA Chairman, Hon. Eugene Chita Epelle, for posting photos and videos highlighting the dilapidated condition of the school.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on March 1, 2026, sparked outrage on social media and drew the attention of activist Martin Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, who visited the community.
In a video shared online, VeryDarkMan disclosed that Burna Boy contacted him and expressed displeasure over the condition of the school. According to him, the singer, who hails from Ahoada, insisted on personally funding the renovation project rather than allowing his NGO to handle it.
He said Burna Boy also asked him to supervise the project to ensure transparency and proper execution.
He said: “Live in Ahoada, Rivers State….following the incident that happened on the 1st of March 2026, where a young lady, Ogadinma Minnie, was beaten up by the Ahoada local government chairman because she raised awareness on the poor state of the public school in their community.
“On my previous video I said if the local government chairman does not fix the school the NGO will do it following my post I got a call from BURNA BOY @burnaboygram YESTERDAY he was unhappy about the situation of the community because burna boy is from ahoada, Rivers state he then said the NGO shouldn’t fund it that he will pay for everything and based on my integrity I should help supervise….AS THE HOUSEBOY TO THE MASSES, I immediately booked my flight to Ph city and we are getting ready.”
Meanwhile, the police have reportedly invited both parties to provide their accounts of the incident.
However, Chairman Epelle has denied assaulting Minnie. He stated that he only visited her residence for what he described as a “peaceful and mature engagement,” but alleged that she began insulting him.
