In an unusual public evaluation of the current administration, former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi has rocked the political scene, stating that the ruling party and its main allies are becoming increasingly concerned by the rise of a strong opposition coalition.
In his speech at a recent meeting of political stakeholders in Abuja on March 6, 2026, the former Governor of Rivers State hinted that the energy behind the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its allies is a direct reaction to the current economic mismanagement. Since the 2023 primary elections, Amaechi has kept a low profile, but he has indicated that the public’s desire for change is causing apparent concern in the halls of government.
They are aware that the public is worn out. According to reports, Amaechi said during the live Q&A session that the reactions to each action the opposition takes are a sign that the house is not in harmony with its history.
The Strategy of the Coalition for 2027:
Amaechi’s remarks come in the wake of the ADC’s recent triumph in the FCT Council elections and the well-known endorsements of ADC candidates by well-known figures like Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar. He observed that the old guard is beginning to understand that conventional political institutions may be insufficient to halt the third force movement, which is now gaining support throughout the six geopolitical regions.
Political observers contend that Amaechi’s re-emergence portends a significant change in the political landscape of the South-South, particularly as Nyesom Wike, his former adversary, keeps strengthening his position in the FCT, despite the Presidency’s repeated rejection of such assertions as wishful thinking.
Amaechi exhorted Nigerians to continue to prioritize integrity-driven leadership, assuring them that the alliance formed to save the country’s future would demonstrate its full power in the upcoming months.
