ABUJA — The Senate Committee screening nominees for the leadership of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission on Monday asked former senator, Magnus Abe, a nominee for Chairman of the commission, to “take a bow and go” after his introduction before the panel.
The decision followed a motion moved by Allwell Onyesoh and seconded by Victor Umeh during the screening exercise at the National Assembly.
The motion allowed Abe to skip the usual question-and-answer session often required during confirmation hearings. The gesture is commonly extended to former lawmakers in recognition of their legislative experience and familiarity with parliamentary procedures.
Following the adoption of the motion, Abe expressed appreciation to members of the committee for the confidence reposed in him.
He thanked the lawmakers for their trust and pledged to contribute his experience to the growth and effective regulation of Nigeria’s upstream petroleum sector if confirmed as Chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
The screening is part of the Senate’s ongoing confirmation process for nominees appointed to leadership positions in the commission.
