According to a report by the Punch on Sunday, March 15, 2026, the Kanam Development Association in Plateau State has raised alarm over a deadly attack by bandits that reportedly claimed the lives of at least 20 security personnel and community vigilantes. The incident occurred on Friday in the Garga axis of Kanam Local Government Area during a patrol operation involving soldiers and local security volunteers.
According to the association, the patrol team, travelling in two vehicles through communities including Garga, Kyaram and Gyambau, was ambushed by heavily armed bandits near Wanka at about 4 p.m. The attackers reportedly opened intense fire on the security team, triggering a fierce gun battle.
In a statement released on Saturday, the group said about 12 members of the security forces, including two senior military officers, were killed during the confrontation.
