Manchester United endured their first setback under interim boss Michael Carrick as William Osula struck late to secure a dramatic 2-1 triumph for ten-man Newcastle United, as reported by Metro.
For much of the opening half, the match lacked intensity before a hectic spell changed the tempo near halftime. Newcastle were initially spared when Bryan Mbeumo wasted a clear-cut chance from close range.
Tension escalated shortly afterward when Jacob Ramsey received a second booking for simulation inside the penalty area and was dismissed, reducing Newcastle to ten players and provoking complaints from the hosts.
Nevertheless, Newcastle moved ahead after the referee awarded a penalty, ruling that Bruno Fernandes had fouled Anthony Gordon. Gordon stepped up and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper.
United responded in first-half stoppage time when Casemiro powered in a header to equalize.
After the break, Newcastle remained disciplined and resilient despite being a man down, seeking opportunities on the counterattack. Their determination paid off in the 91st minute as Osula delivered a composed curling finish into the far corner, sealing a thrilling late win and inflicting Carrick’s first defeat in charge.
