According to Mobolaji, his cousin, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is indirectly supporting actions that endanger his life.
A Lagos-based political activist and All Progressives Congress party member, Mobolaji Gbajabiamila, has alleged that he is being unlawfully detained in Ikoyi Prison following a series of what he describes as politically motivated false allegations made by the Surulere Local Government Area (LGA) APC Chairman, Sheriff Balogun.

According to Mobolaji, his cousin, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is indirectly supporting actions that endanger his life.
In letters addressed to various authorities, including the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos, and President Tinubu, Mobolaji described a “persistent brutal emotional and physical battering from captains of the Surulere APC party structure” and accused Sheriff Balogun of making “false allegations of threats to his life to justify plans to murder” him.

“I am unlawfully held in Ikoyi Prison because I wrote an open letter to the president about my cousin the Chief of Staff’s support for a series of falsehood against me that are used to imprison me. This is not the first time. My life is in danger, which is why I seek the President to caution the Chief of Staff,” Mobolaji wrote in a letter dated December 10, 2025.
He narrated that he was “tricked to Zone 2 and taken to court without a lawyer” and that his bail condition requires a Gbajabiamila family member to stand for him, despite the family allegedly being intimidated by the Chief of Staff.
“Everyone is afraid of the Chief of Staff,” he said.
“Please, I am worried that the abuse and withholding of evidence to put me in prison is aimed for my life,” he added.
In a separate petition to the AIG, Zone 2, Mobolaji demanded that Sheriff Balogun provide evidence to support his allegations, warning that failure to do so should result in prosecution.
He further requested security for his protection and a formal retraction and apology from both Balogun and the police.
“Mr. Sheriff Balogun must provide evidence of threats to his life from me or face prosecution. Restriction orders, retraction publications, and appropriate redresses must follow his prosecution,” Mobolaji wrote.
“The police must also provide any evidence Mr. Balogun presented to convince the police there is an attempt to life before I was written in a letter of invitation with my name to answer to threats to life.”
Mobolaji outlined a history of prior false allegations and interference by individuals linked to the Chief of Staff.
He described incidents where he was allegedly misled by party officials and the police, including a case where he was remanded in Kirikiri Prison for 30 days despite a “No Case to Answer” advice from the DPP.
“My fears for my life stem from the false allegation of threats to his life made by the Surulere APC Chairman, Mr. Sheriff Balogun, which is a threat to my life because it was not founded on anything else,” he wrote to President Tinubu.
He also accused the Chief of Staff of sending messages instructing him to “let them go or I will be blocked,” further claiming that the political structure has systematically denied him consideration for party roles and benefits.
“This represents a threat to my life and moreso, when the chief of staff (Gbajabiamila) simply sent a message to leave the case or I will be blocked, further that the oppression I suffer constantly from a camp I am a member of, the APC party,” he said.
The case is listed as Charge No. L/03/2026, with Mobolaji Gbajabiamila and Kayode Odu named in the police charge.
They are accused of conspiring to commit misdemeanors including threats to life and conduct likely to cause breach of peace under Sections 411, 56, and 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The arraignment took place on 28th January 2026 at the Lagos Magisterial District.
Mobolaji maintains his innocence, insisting that he “did not threaten anyone, was not involved in any assault at Area C, and is not a thug.” He urged authorities to investigate his allegations thoroughly, stating, “Without fear of contradiction, I do not fear any evidence to exist that I threatened any life. I am above that.”
The activist has copied his complaints to key authorities, including the Inspector General of Police, the Chairman Senate Committee on Police Affairs, the Attorney General of the Federation, the Police Service Commission, and both national and state APC leadership.
He emphasized that his letters are motivated by public interest and a desire to safeguard his life and uphold lawful due process.
Mobolaji Gbajabiamila Appeals to President Tinubu
In his appeal to President Tinubu, Mobolaji referenced his late father, Alhaji Muritala Taiwo Gbajabiamila, as a personal connection to the president, pleading for intervention:
“I genuinely now fear for my life as there seems to be a reluctance on the part of the AIG to proceed the matter to court for my safety. Please, Your Excellency, rescue me from the evil repeated at me that have the support of the Chief of Staff.”
In his detailed petition to President Tinubu, Mobolaji stressed that he is the son of the late Alhaji Taiwo Gbajabiamila, whom he described as a friend of the President. He also stressed that he is the cousin of the President’s Chief of Staff, Gbajabiamila.
He alleged persistent threats to his life and political harassment linked to party officials in Surulere, Lagos State.
Mobolaji claimed that the alleged threats were instigated by the Chief of Staff and reported by Sheriff Balogun, the Surulere APC Local Government Area Chairman, despite a lack of evidence. He stated that the latest accusation against him, alleging threats to Balogun’s life, “represents a threat to my life, and more so, when the Chief of Staff simply sends a message to ‘let the case go or I will be blocked’.”
The petitioner detailed what he described as a pattern of political and personal intimidation, saying he was repeatedly pressured to drop complaints against party officials.
He wrote: “I am receiving persistent brutal emotional and physical battering from captains of the Surulere APC party structure, which my cousin the Chief of Staff has aided by constantly asking me to let them go each time I prove beyond doubt and hand the evidence to Mrs. Kemi Ogunyemi, who is the older sister to the Chief of Staff and SA to Governor Sanwo-Olu on health.”
Mobolaji also recounted prior incidents of alleged harassment, including false claims circulated online that he was being sought by police in his neighborhood and an instance where a local community leader conspired to have him remanded in Kirikiri Prison.
Regarding these events, he noted that “after 30 days, DPP advice gave a ‘No Case to Answer.’ Sister Kemi Ogunyemi, whom I handed a copy of the advice, told me to not pursue the redress.”
Highlighting his family connections to the President and his political loyalty, Mobolaji lamented the treatment of his family by the Chief of Staff’s camp.
He wrote: “My father, Alhaji Muritala Taiwo Gbajabiamila, was your friend, and Your Excellency would at least expect the Chief of Staff to help his children who are his cousins who also support the party. In reality, being treated as beggars and outcasts is the experience the Gbajabiamilas get from the siblings and camp of the Chief of Staff.”
Expressing fear for his safety, Mobolaji called on the President to intervene, stating: “I genuinely now fear for my life as there seems to be a reluctance on the part of the AIG to proceed the matter to court for my safety. Please Your Excellency, rescue me from the evil repeated at me that have the support of the COS.”
As of the latest correspondence, Mobolaji remains in detention at Ikoyi Prison, awaiting further court proceedings and the outcome of his petition requesting security and an investigation into the alleged abuse of process.
A family source told SaharaReporters on Sunday morning that Mobolaji is still being held at the facility.
