I Felt I Knew My Husband Well Enough While We Were Courting, Only To Discover I Knew Nothing -Wife

Wosilat, a mother of four, has shared how her once-hopeful marriage ended in disappointment, leading to its dissolution by the Grade A Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, according to report by NIGERIAN TRIBUNE on Saturday October 18 2025.

In her testimony before the court, she explained that she and her husband, Abass, were married according to Islamic rites, with the bride price paid. She said she entered the union with high hopes and dreams, but those dreams were quickly dashed. She believed she knew Abass well during their courtship, but marriage revealed a different reality.

Wosilat accused Abass of being violent, claiming he frequently beat her and their children. She also said he failed to provide for the family after she left their matrimonial home. As a result, she sought full custody of their children, financial support for their upkeep, and protection from further harassment.

“I thought I knew my husband well enough while we were courting, only to discover I knew little or nothing about him when we got married. My husband did succeed in making my life unpleasant and miserable. He was never patient with me and was always filled with anger. My husband always loses control of himself when he is in this state. He would be fierce and beat me black and blue.”
