In an interview with FeelrightNews TV correspondent Lolade Awosanya, a popular Nollywood actress opened up about her journey into Nollywood, sharing how her passion for acting began, the challenges she overcame to make her mark in the industry, and how she was sexually assaulted by an older man when she was younger.
Narrating the incident, she said that when she was in primary school, her mother was involved in a ghastly accident, and because of that, she and her siblings were taken to their aunt’s house to live with her. According to her, the aunt operated a beer parlour, and whenever she was there, an elderly man who often came to drink at the bar would call her “Iyawo mi.”
Further speaking (between 28:52–31:00), she said, “He called me, ‘Iyawo, Iyawo mi, come here.’ So I went to meet him. He told me to give him a drink, and I did. After that, he placed me on his lap. I felt uncomfortable, but I didn’t want to say anything so that my aunt wouldn’t scold me, so I remained there. However, I noticed something poking me.
“Whenever I tried to stand up, he would pull me back. After some time, I stood up forcefully and went to a corner, wondering what had just happened to me. The man then went to meet my aunt and told her that I had bitten him and insulted him.
“By the time I returned to the shop, my aunt slapped me. I will never forget that slap. I just went inside and started crying.”
