During an interview on Arise Television, Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, spoke about the political strength of figures he said are now aligned with the party.
Momodu pointed to the past electoral performances of prominent politicians, arguing that their combined political weight could pose a major challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
According to him, “Look at most of the people who are with us today. You just mentioned Rotimi Amaechi; Rotimi Amaechi came second to Bola Ahmed Tinubu in their primary in APC, and now he’s in ADC. Atiku Abubakar came second in the presidential election in 2023; he’s in ADC. Peter Obi came 3rd in the last presidential election; he’s in ADC. Look, they will completely obliterate APC out of existence.”
Momodu’s remarks come amid ongoing political realignments ahead of future elections, with several opposition figures discussing possible coalitions aimed at challenging the ruling party.
He suggested that the electoral support previously demonstrated by figures such as Amaechi, Atiku, and Obi shows that they each command significant political followings. According to him, bringing such politicians together under one political platform could dramatically reshape Nigeria’s political landscape
