Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has spoken about his retirement, family life, and his continued role in Nigerian politics.
According to a report by DAILY POST on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, El-Rufai said he is now retired and spends most of his time in Egypt. He explained that he lives there with part of his family and his 96-year-old mother.
He said his working career has covered different areas, including quantity surveying consulting, mobile telecommunications, and public service. He recalled serving as Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises from 1999 to 2003, then as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory between 2003 and 2007. El-Rufai said he later became governor of Kaduna State, a position he held for two terms from 2015 to 2023.
El-Rufai said even though he is retired, he is still active in politics. He described himself as a leading member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he called the only surviving opposition party in Nigeria. He added that his involvement in the ADC is the real reason he is being investigated.
His words,
“I was Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (1999–2003), Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (2003–2007) and twice- elected Governor of Kaduna State (2015–2023). I am retired and live mostly in Egypt with half of my family and 96-year-old mother. I am a leading member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the only surviving opposition party in Nigeria, which is the real reason you are investigating me.”
