Mohammed Bello El-Rufai has accused the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission of turning into a political tool against his father, Nasir El-Rufai, following a recent raid on the family’s Abuja residence.
The lawmaker said the operation was not about justice but about politics.

He argued that the agency is being used to damage his father’s reputation in the public space.
He made the remarks after the commission announced that it recovered items allegedly linked to phone interception and sensitive security materials from the house.
According to the ICPC, the search was carried out in the presence of El-Rufai’s wife and son.
The agency also claimed that the former governor refused to allow forensic examination of some seized items.
These claims triggered a sharp reaction from his son.
In a statement titled “The Insecurity of ICPC,” Bello El-Rufai rejected the allegations.
He described them as misleading and designed to influence public opinion.
He accused the commission of acting outside its professional boundaries.
“The ICPC’s release illustrates an attempt to manipulate public perception. It contains allegations and documentation that contradict the standards the commission is expected to uphold, including the creation of questionable records,” Bello stated.
“This pattern of conduct reflects misuse of authority and suggests the agency has been influenced and repurposed for political objectives.”
The lawmaker said the family treated the allegations with “contempt and amusement.”
He insisted that no surveillance or wiretapping equipment was found in the house.
He maintained that only ordinary personal items such as old phones, laptops, and flash drives were taken by operatives.
Bello also faulted the ICPC for presenting his father’s silence as an act of defiance.
He said exercising the constitutional right to remain silent should not be framed as non-cooperation.
He accused the agency of using that right as part of a smear campaign rather than focusing on credible investigation.
He disclosed that the family has briefed its lawyers to challenge what they described as illegal procedures and distorted evidence.
He expressed confidence that the courts would determine the truth and protect due process.
The ICPC’s probe reportedly arose from a petition alleging financial misconduct during El-Rufai’s years in office as governor between 2015 and 2023.
However, the family insists the case is politically motivated and lacks substance. See more
