Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has stated that his administration has made agriculture a central focus since assuming office in 2023.
According to a report by DAILY INDEPENDENT on Friday, March 6, 2026, Sani highlighted that when his administration assumed office, the agriculture budget stood at just 0.5%. He noted that the figure has since risen to over 11%, surpassing the target set in the Malabo Declaration. He emphasized that this increase reflects Kaduna’s strong commitment to food security and rural development.
The governor also stated that Kaduna is carrying out the groundbreaking for the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone. He explained that the project is designed to improve food production and processing capacity in the state. He stated that Kaduna is partnering with Afreximbank to establish the Africa Quality Assurance Center (AQAC). He noted that the center, will certify farmers’ produce to meet international standards, making it possible for local farmers to export their goods abroad.
Governor Sani further stated that Kaduna is the only state in Nigeria that has distributed 900 trucks of fertilizer to smallholder farmers free of charge. He explained that this initiative is aimed at supporting rural farmers, boosting crop yields, and ensuring that farming communities have the resources they need to thrive.
According to Sani,
“When we came in, in 2023, the budget of agriculture was only 0.5%. But today, the budget of agriculture is over 11%, surpassing the Malabo Declaration.”
