According to Nigerian Tribune, the Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has emphasized that paying workers’ salaries is a statutory duty of government and should not be considered an extraordinary achievement, as some narratives suggest.
He made this remark during the inauguration of a new support group in Jos, formed by both academic and non-academic staff of tertiary institutions, called Plateau State Academics for Caleb Mutfwang/Tinubu 2027.
The group intends to campaign for Governor Mutfwang’s re-election in 2027 and support Bola Tinubu’s presidential bid.
Represented at the event by his Chief of Staff, Jeremiah Satmak, Governor Mutfwang underscored the administration’s commitment to timely payment of salaries, pensions, and other emoluments, noting that the government views the welfare of workers as a priority.
Satmak stated, “Governor Mutfwang has never announced when salaries are paid to workers because he believes that everyone who goes to work must return home with their wages. And that is what His Excellency is committed to.”
This, he added, reflects the governor’s philosophy that fulfilling statutory obligations should be standard practice rather than an act worthy of special recognition.
In response to the praises directed at Governor Mutfwang for the significant improvements in the state’s academic institutions and the welfare of workers, Satmak highlighted that the governor’s interventions extend beyond state-owned schools and tertiary institutions, benefiting federal establishments as well.
These efforts, according to him, demonstrate a consistent focus on enhancing the quality of education and ensuring staff welfare across Plateau State.
The support group’s launch marks a strategic political move, aiming to mobilize the state’s academic community behind Governor Mutfwang and presidential candidate Tinubu.
By forming such alliances, the group hopes to influence voter sentiment in the 2027 elections while recognizing the administration’s ongoing contributions to the education sector.
