According to The Punch, on Thursday February 5, 2026, Woro and Nuku, two towns in Kwara State’s Kaiama Local Government Area, were the targets of a suspected terrorist assault on Tuesday. On Wednesday, more details about the attack emerged.
According to a close relative of the Woro traditional ruler, who is his younger brother, the attackers attacked the region in the early evening, according to the News Agency of Nigeria. He said that the assailants rode in on motorbikes and set up shop throughout the neighbourhoods before attacking.
As he described it, the attack was structured in such a way that inhabitants had little chance to run; reports indicated that gunfire was coming from all directions, essentially cutting off any escape routes.
According to Umar, “The residents who attempted to flee were shot, while those who surrendered were gathered at the palace of the village head, where they were tied up and shot.”
He revealed that the assault had abducted many members of the traditional ruler’s family, including his mother, three children, and wife. Five members of the household remained missing after the attack.
According to reports, the attack sent many people running for their lives, and the town was practically empty afterward. In order to rebuild confidence and allow displaced residents to return, he stressed the urgent need of an increased security presence.
He stated that earlier intelligence had pointed to the likelihood of an assault, which had been conveyed to authorities at the local level and then communicated to higher authorities.
Additionally, he mentioned that the assailants seemed to be initially dissuaded by a group of soldiers who had patrolled the area earlier in the day.
