A BBC Sport report dated Monday, March 16, 2026, revealed that Rayo Vallecano played out a 1–1 draw with Levante UD in their La Liga fixture at Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas.
The home team controlled possession for long periods and set the tempo early on, attempting to penetrate Levante’s defensive structure.
Rayo displayed good passing in midfield and created a number of chances, but Levante stayed disciplined at the back and looked to exploit spaces on the counterattack.
The breakthrough came in the 41st minute when Carlos Espí headed home a cross from Iker Losada, giving Levante a 1–0 lead at the break. That goal meant Rayo had to step up their efforts in the second half.
Rayo’s task became easier in the 53rd minute when Nobel Mendy was shown a red card after picking up his second yellow for handball, reducing Levante to ten players. The hosts continued to push forward and maintained control of possession, but Levante’s defense remained resilient. Their resistance was finally overcome in stoppage time when substitute Pathé Ciss scored from close range after meeting a cross from Florian Lejeune.
The goal was awarded following a VAR check. The draw saw Rayo Vallecano climb to 13th in the standings, sitting six points above the relegation zone, while Levante stayed in 19th place and remain under significant pressure to turn their form around.
