A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not retain power in the 2027 general elections if the polls are conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
Galadima made the statement on Friday while appearing on a political programme on News Central TV, where he spoke on the growing wave of defections by politicians to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reacting to the trend, the NNPP chieftain said he was not worried about governors and other politicians joining the ruling party, insisting that such defections would not determine the outcome of the next presidential election.
“Let all the governors, six of them, plus the president, be in the APC. Once there’s a free, fair and transparent election, I assure you that President Bola Tinubu will not be the president in 2027,” Galadima said.
According to him, the outcome of any credible election ultimately depends on the will of the Nigerian people rather than the number of political leaders aligned with a particular party.
Galadima noted that Nigeria’s democratic process would only gain public trust if elections are conducted in a transparent and credible manner, stressing that the electorate has the power to decide the country’s leadership.
He also maintained that political realignments and defections are common in Nigeria’s political landscape, but insisted they should not be mistaken for genuine public support.
The NNPP chieftain’s comments come amid ongoing political manoeuvring and defections among politicians ahead of the 2027 general elections, as parties and political actors continue to reposition themselves for future contests.
Political analysts say such statements reflect the increasing intensity of political debates and alignments as discussions about the next electoral cycle gradually gain momentum across the country.
