A serving Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor seeking to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing unexpectedly tough conditions that have thrown his camp into dilemma. Sources reveal that while APC leaders in Abuja were open to discussions, home-based party members insisted on strict terms, believing they can win the state in 2027 with or without the governor.
Key conditions include: the governor would not automatically become party leader upon defection, would not have the right to handpick a successor, and his supporters would receive no special considerations in primary elections.
The governor’s camp is now in “serious dilemma,” with some supporters urging reversal of the defection bid.
