Oyegun: When He Contested As VP To Shekarau, He Had A Wife, Children,Cooks; He Got 3 Votes–Oshiomhole

Former Edo State governor and senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has taken a swipe at John Odigie-Oyegun while speaking at a gathering held to welcome new members into the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State.

In a video shared by Channels Television, Oshiomhole criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over reported disagreements among its members in the state. He referred to Oyegun, who was once governor of Edo State and later served as national chairman of the APC, and questioned his political strength.

Bringing up the 2011 presidential election, Oshiomhole recalled that Oyegun ran as the vice-presidential candidate alongside former Kano State governor, Ibrahim Shekarau. He claimed that despite having a household with family members and staff, Oyegun received only three votes in his polling unit during that election. Oshiomhole used the example to suggest that Oyegun lacked strong support even within his immediate environment.

The senator also accused a former Edo governor of previously deducting 30 percent from workers’ salaries and asked whether the money was ever returned. Although he did not initially mention a name, his remarks appeared to be directed at Oyegun.

Oshiomhole further described the internal issues within the ADC as a sign of weakness, saying it was disappointing to see senior political figures publicly attacking one another.

In his words, “When he contested as vice-presidential candidate to Shekarau, in his house, at least he has a wife, children, gatemen, cooks and stewards, at least they are up to 15. In that election, he got three votes, which means members of his household didn’t vote for him.”
