In a recent video on YouTube, Nigerian cleric William Folorunso Kumuyi has urged Christians to embrace forgiveness, declaring that Christ’s prayer for mercy remains active and relevant for believers today.
Speaking during a recent message at the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Kumuyi called on individuals struggling with hurt and resentment to forgive those who wronged them, just as Christ forgave His persecutors.
“That woman, forgive her father. That boy, that girl, forgive,” Kumuyi said. “Forgive them, for they know not what they are doing.”
Anticipating doubts among listeners, the preacher addressed those questioning whether Christ’s prayer for forgiveness still applies. “You say, ‘Pastor, I know He prayed that prayer at that time. But how do you know He’s still praying that prayer for me?’” Kumuyi said.
He answered by citing Scripture: “Because He said Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
Kumuyi stressed that Christ’s unchanging nature assures believers of continuing mercy and grace. “He wanted forgiveness for everyone. He wanted salvation for everyone. He wants forgiveness for you,” he declared. “And He wants salvation for you.”
According to Kumuyi, the prayer first uttered on the cross did not end in the past but continues in effect. “That same prayer, He continues,” he said.
