Plateau killings: Tinubu orders 5,000 CCTV cameras

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the installation of more than 5,000 CCTV cameras in Plateau State following the recent killings in Jos.

The directive was given during a town hall meeting with political and traditional leaders in the state. This comes just days after a deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba during Palm Sunday, where over 27 people lost their lives. The President said the cameras would help security agencies quickly identify those behind such attacks and improve safety across the state.

Tinubu explained that the Federal Government is ready to act fast to stop further violence. He said the cameras will be placed in different parts of the state, starting from Jos, and will support law enforcement officers in tracking criminals and preventing future incidents.

The President also directed security chiefs, including the Inspector-General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff, to find and arrest those responsible for the killings. He praised the efforts of security forces so far and urged them to do more in bringing the attackers to justice.

While speaking to victims and community members, Tinubu expressed sadness over the loss of lives. He said no amount of money can replace those who died, but promised that the government will support affected families. He also announced plans to set up a committee that will look into the losses suffered by victims and suggest ways to provide compensation.

The Minister of Communications, Bosun Tijani, said the cameras will be powered by modern technology, including artificial intelligence. According to him, the system will allow real-time monitoring and faster response to threats. He added that similar systems are already working in some states in Nigeria.
