President Bola Tinubu has ordered the Nigerian Army to immediately elevate his aide-de-camp, Nurudeen Yusuf, from his current rank as a colonel to the rank of brigadier-general.
This directive was contained in a confidential document addressed to the Chief of Army Staff, by the National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
He stated that President Tinubu approved a special promotion for Yusuf, effective from December 12, 2025.
“I wish to convey Mr President’s approval of special presidential promotion of Colonel Nurudeen Alowonle Yusuf to the rank of brigadier-general and retention as ADC C-in-C with effect from 12 December 2025 for your necessary action as enclosed,” the letter partly read.
Meanwhile, it is indicated that by granting a special promotion to Colonel Yusuf, President Tinubu has breached the official rules regarding promotions in the Nigerian armed forces.
It was understood that the promotion in the armed forces are usually based on years of service and participation in professional courses and training.
