Reactions have erupted across political and social media spaces following a heated exchange between former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, over comments linked to the ongoing controversy involving the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The clash was triggered by a post from Obi, who criticized what he described as a decline in democratic values among those who once fought for democracy during the era of military rule under Sani Abacha. Obi’s remarks came amid reactions to INEC’s decision affecting the leadership structure of the ADC.

Reacting strongly, Fani-Kayode condemned Obi’s statement, describing it as offensive to the memory of those who fought and died during Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggles, particularly the June 12 movement and members of the NADECO.
In a lengthy post on X, Fani-Kayode accused Obi of trivializing the sacrifices of victims of military repression, stating that such remarks “assault the senses and wound the sensitivities” of those affected.
He further criticized Obi for referencing the Abacha era in a manner he considered inappropriate, insisting that those who lost their lives in the struggle for democracy deserved respect and not comparison.
The exchange has since generated widespread reactions, with supporters of both figures taking to social media to either defend Obi’s position or back Fani-Kayode’s condemnation.
